OUR SERVICES
The Foot Company’s whole business model is built on providing an extraordinary patient experience. The services at our state-of-the-art pedorthic clinics in Mississauga and Orangeville are delivered by highly educated and accredited Canadian pedorthists. At our onsite labs, we develop custom orthotic solutions and footwear education and modification to relieve pain, enhance mobility and comfort, and improve the quality of your life.
Custom-made Foot Orthotics
Our truly custom foot orthotics will support and correct your feet, helping to get rid of the mechanical issues that are causing pain in the feet, ankles, kness, hips and back. The orthotics will be designed specifically to match lifestyle needs from casual usage, sports, high-impact steel-toe boots, everyday walking, dress shoes, skates, ski boots, etc.
We will discuss appropriate footwear and make recommendations, including exercises to give you an optimal orthotic experience.
Orthopaedic Footwear
Designed to support the foot, ankle, and leg, orthopaedic shoes provide people with proper stability and comfort. We provide customized footwear and shoe alterations, including lifts, rocker soles, stretching, and sole widening.
Custom Night Splints
Often, people with persistent plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, and other conditions unknowingly clench their feet while resting and put pressure on the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon.
A night splint stabilizes the feet while you sleep, helps repair inflammation, and provides pain relief.
Biomechanical Analysis
If you are unclear about the source of your foot discomfort, our foot experts will conduct a comprehensive biomechanical evaluation and recommend the most effective treatment.
A biomechanical analysis can also prevent injuries and enhance performance by making the patient aware of issues and how to correct them. People of all ages and ability levels must recognise the significance of appropriate mechanics.
Gait Assessments
At The Foot Company, our knowledgeable pedothist will watch how you walk and run to devise a treatment strategy that improves your gait and reduces discomfort.
Custom Toe Spacers, Hammer Toe Braces & Metatarsal Pads, and Bunion Splints
Toe Spacers: Toe spacers can improve foot mobility and repair damage caused by narrow toe box shoes. They help treat bunions, corns, hammertoes, blisters, or overlapping toes.
Hammer Toe Braces: Braces for hammertoes straighten the muscles that bend your toes. They also prevent the muscles from tightening due to the curled position.
Metatarsal Pads: This shoe modification device relieves pressure on the metatarsal head and relieves neuroma symptoms. They also reduce stress on the ball of the foot and support the metatarsal bone just behind the ball.
Bunion Splints: Soft splints that can be worn in shoes or barefoot to help relieve bunion pain and straighten the big toe.
Common Problems Treated by a Pedorthist
Your feet are the foundation of your body. At The Foot Company, we solve mechanical foot problems that interfere with healthy living. Our mission is to get you back on your feet and active in the activities you want to be doing.
Heel Pain
The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that runs across the sole and connects the heel bone to the toes. Inflammation of this area can cause severe pain. A tight Achilles tendon and an overpronating foot can worsen the problem, causing pain at the bottom of the heel and in the inner aspect of the arch.
Shin Splints
Shin splints are an inflammatory disorder affecting the muscles, tendons, and bone tissue of the shin. It is often the result of repetitive activity and tight muscles.
The pain usually occurs around the inside and front of the shin, where the muscles meet the bone. Our custom orthotics relieve shin discomfort by straightening and stabilizing the foot and ankle.
Metatarsalgia
Metatarsalgia produces pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot. Sports and jobs that entail a lot of walking, running, and jumping may increase your risk. This problem is usually a result of a fallen metatarsal arch and inappropriate footwear. If left untreated it can often result in a neuroma forming which is very painful and difficult to get rid of.
Flat feet, Overpronation, Over Supination
These issues involve your gait and affect how your weight is distributed as you walk or run. In supination, your weight tends to be on the outside of your foot when you walk, while in pronation, your weight tends to be on the inside of your foot.
Although these foot often begin in childhood, they can become more problematic as you mature. Overuse due to injuries, and weight gain can also worsen the problem. We perform a gait analysis and make the necessary adjustments to correct alignment issues.
Arthritis
For people with severe arthritis, shoe modifications and foot orthoses can add comfort and help with pain management. Our certified pedorthist can modify a shoe’s interior or exterior to improve the fit.
We also provide modifications to shoe closures, helping people whose hands have trouble with lacing or tying or who have difficulty bending. Our customized foot orthoses help cushion and redistribute weight to assist the other joints above the foot.
Achilles Tendonitis & Calf Cramping
Achilles tendonitis arises due to the Achilles tendon being stretched repeatedly. The Achilles tendon becomes less flexible, weak, and prone to damage as we age.
If you are experiencing persistent discomfort around your Achilles tendon, a pedorthist can assist with a comprehensive evaluation of your feet and lower limbs and perform a gait analysis. They may also examine your shoes and advise you on whether the support and cushioning are appropriate.
A foot orthotic may be prescribed to alleviate strain on the Achilles tendon, while sore calves can benefit from compression socks that improve blood circulation.
Diabetes
We will come up with solutions for the following foot problems arising from diabetes, including
- High-pressure points & diabetic ulcers
- Loss of sensation in feet
- Reduced blood flow
- Poor balance
Bunions & Bunionettes
Bunions are painful bony bumps at the joint of your big toe, while bunionettes are bony bumps at the joint of your little toe. The big toe bears a large portion of our body weight, and a bunion at the joint can cause pain.
While orthotics cannot cure a bunion or bunionette, they can help alleviate pain, disperse the pressure and delay the course of the condition.
Calluses, Corns and Warts
Calluses and corns are thickened areas of skin that are hardened from pressure and friction, while plantar warts are uncomfortable growths that can occur on the sole of your feet.
At The Foot Company, we will provide you with the remedy to help these painful spots disappear. Though we do not perform removals, we will help offload the pressure on these areas.
